Our Service
A History of Service Above Self
Our club has been active in support of many community projects including the Culpeper Regional Hospital, the Culpeper County Library, the Free Clinic of Culpeper, Yowell Meadow Park and Mountain Run Lake Park. Rotarians have provided countless hours to these endeavors and our club has provided funds for the construction of many of these institutions within our community.
Other civic activities through the years include the following:
- In 1950-51 contributed $500 to the Culpeper County High School to purchase uniforms and instruments for a new school band.
- In 1952-53 co-sponsored and contributed to a Speech Correction Clinic in the Culpeper County Public Schools. The clinic counseled 88 children in its initial year.
- In 1952-53 established the Loan Closet which loaned wheelchairs, crutches, hospital beds and other medical supplies to needy families in the Culpeper vicinity.
- In 1965-66 awarded the first college scholarship to a Culpeper County student.
- In 1970-71 donated $800 to Germanna Community College.
- In 1973-74 planted dogwood trees in front of the entrance to Culpeper Regional Hospital and in the median strip at the north end of Culpeper on Business 29.
- In 1974-75 dedicated the picnic shelter at Mountain Run Lake. The shelter was built with money, materials and labor donated by the club's members.
